Jessica Montoya Coggins is currently the Executive Director of The Texas Signal Media Foundation, one of the largest nonprofit newsrooms in Texas. She writes extensively about many topics including healthcare, education, and culture.
Prior to joining Texas Signal, Jessica was the CEO of JMC Strategy Group, a communications and advocacy firm in Washington, D.C. At JMC Strategy Group, she consulted with organizations on strategic communications, philanthropic outreach, and digital and social media. Before starting her own firm, Jessica was the Digital Writer at For Our Future PAC, a groundbreaking progressive organization that focused on empowering people and community-based partners through a dynamic field and digital organization plan.
After graduating from Harvard, Jessica was able to hone her writing skills in New York City. As a frequent contributor to NBC News Digital, she authored stories on politics, culture, education, and the economy. Jessica was invited to the White House to cover the “Beating the Odds Summit” hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama for first-generation Black and Latino college students. Additionally, Jessica has been a contributor to many diverse publications, including Jezebel, Salon, The Women’s Media Center and Latino Magazine.
Jessica has a B.A. in English Language and Literature and a Citation in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies from Harvard University. As an undergraduate, she interned at the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom. On campus, Jessica was a writer at both The Harvard Political Review and The Harvard Crimson, where she was an editor and columnist.
